Austin Home of the Week

This home is in an Austin suburb called Westlake, a gorgeous area that is home to many current and retired politicians, local and national celebrities, and corporate executives.

Listed at $2.45 mil, its nearly 7,000 sq. feet of space includes 5 bedrooms, 5 bathrooms, 2 half-baths.

As you've probably noticed by now, a hallmark of many homes in the Texas Hill Country is the use of native Texas limestone and sandstone. This particular house incorporates a lot of stone in beautiful ways. Even though the square footage is grand, it still has a very homey feel -- just like you'd expect from a friendly Texan. This homeowner is probably more comfortable in boots and jeans than in a three-piece suit, though I'd suspect could be found wearing either at any given time.

One of the greatest things about living in the Texas Hill Country is being able to take advantage of wonderful weather. That's why you'll often see pretty elaborate outdoor spaces on homes, big and small. I love the outdoor space of this home. If the weather's nice enough, you could even host Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner on that long table.

I like that this house is unpretentious for its size and location. In fact, it really personifies what Austin is all about.

The outdoor space is fantastic; I think I like it better than the indoor spaces! It's hard to believe people really live in places like that.
Hey, is Kinky's parents' house still for sale? I saw it on the realtor tour several months ago.
When I can't sleep at night, I mentally update the exterior of my plain brick home with some limestone and sandstone! Yep, some girls dream of diamonds and cars, I dream of rocks!!

OFF TOPIC POST. Sorry to be off topic, but you don't have an email listed to contact you, and I wanted to say something about the comment you left on my site. This is the first year for my flowers; we moved a year ago this month. I can actually send you a list of what I planted, and what did well, and what flopped. I kept a list as I went, so that I wouldn't make the same mistakes. Some of the garden looks like crap, so I don't photograph it; I mostly show only the stuff I've had success with. Considering the dry weather, I'm happy ANYTHING lived. I even had a poke weed I let mature because it was green and lush! I'll try to remember to post the list of plants on my blog one day with notes on each. Gardening in Texas is a challenge, but always rewarding.

Nola, I didn't even know Kinky's parents were still around, much less that their house was for sale. Wonder what that mls number was...

Sandra, No, the Kinkster's parents have both passed away. Much earlier in the year, he put their house up for sale. I will check and see if I can find it, if it is still on the market. Of course, they were asking a fortune for it. It was just a cute, homey 1940 or 50ish ranch. I'll get back to ya on that.

7,000 square feet? I might could make myself upgrade to that. ;-)

This one, though large, feels warm for its size to me.

Enjoyed the tour! Thanks for sharing these.
