Saturday Catch-Up

I've been asked about the vinyl floors in our living room. The brand is Cryntel, which is made by and sold at Lowe's. Sadly, it has been discontinued in spite of its popularity.

There are other brands out there, and the price range is as varied as other types of flooring. I did a lot of research before purchasing the Cryntel, and what I learned is if you have a cement slab, you're better off going with a self-stick tile that adheres directly to the slab. If you have a pier and beam foundation, Home Depot sells a line of planks that adhere to each other and not to the floor underneath. Homeowners with slabs were not always pleased with the result if they'd installed that type of tile and vice versa.

I've also been asked about the rug in the living room. It is an indoor/outdoor, sisal-look rug purchased on clearance from Ballard's. We love it. If you have kids and pets, it's immensely more practical than a natural rug, and it looks like the real thing.

My friend, Penny, from the Comforts of Home has asked about the hatch green chili burgers at Shady Grove. Hatch chilies are grown only in/near Hatch, NM. They are harvested in late summer and slow roasted to reach a subtle flavor with a slight tang and a bit of a bite. They make nearly everything taste better.

Have you noticed my new header? My good friend, Sharon, over at Serendipity is considering getting into the biz of blog design, and Canyon Wren Cottage is her first guinea pig. Did you notice that the design incorporates an antique postcard of downtown Austin? I love it! (Thank you sweet friend). If you are in the mood for a little blog redo, please see what Sharon can do.

Finally, next week, I will be profiling my favorite design blogs. Canyon Wren Cottage covers a range of topics, but the main focus is decorating, and with the decline of so many design magazines these days, a girl's gotta find her eye candy somewhere. Have a great weekend!

Thanks for letting me know about the Hatch Chili's! Your new header looks great....

It is a shame about all of the design magazines stopping their publications. I used to sell advertising for both newspapers and upscale magazines for a living. I did it for 25 years. I am so glad I am not doing it now. Magazines and newspapers make their living through advertising not subscriptions. And when the advertisers scale back it is hard to publish.
Hugs,
Penny

Still love looking at your LR. I did buy some of the tiles at HD...they stick together. For our Laundry room. We have already had a few "water probs" so thought it would be a good deal. I'll let you know how it goes!

And fire roasted chilis. GET outa here! Yum!! I plan on doing that with a big batch of tomatoes...then freezing them.

Sandra, I love the new header and the use of the antique post card- so creative! I also love your rug- reminds me of the rug in "Something's Gotta Give"!!
Ah, Hatch chilies! We'd see the back of pick-up trucks FULL of them in NM! I must admit, I miss my chilies, jalapenos, and Mexican food!! :( Have you ever been to Angie's in Austin (off 5th/6th St. on the East side of 35. Amazing puffy-style tacos!)

Sandra, love the new header & look of your blog. Way to go, Sharon! I can't believe all the decor magazines going out of business either. It really is sad! I can't imagine not having a real magazine to look at & hope my faves stick around. I just started a new sub. to House Beautiful & am looking forward to getting it.

Please check out my Son Scott's band RadioStar. They would be a fun group to check out. In fact, they are up for the best cover band in Austin award. Please take the time to vote for them. He played at SpeakEasy last week. They play CedarStreet often. Just check the schedule on their webpage
