Home of the Week -- Gaston Ave.

When I ran across this home, I was convinced that it was built sometime in the 90's. The style is overwhelming French country with lots of wallpaper. Now, I'm not a wallpaper bigot. In fact, I quite like wallpaper, but this house has it in nearly every room. I was very surprised to see that the home was built just last year.

I can't decide if this home was built for a young family or an older couple. Some of the details in the kitchen are throwing me off. I hate the designs on the front of the farmhouse sink, and I'm not a big fan of the elaborate fruit/vegetable tiles on the backsplash, the mantel scarf or all those figurines above the TV in the living room.

The home has a lot of architectural detail that is especially apparent in the master bedroom. Take a look at that ceiling! With a little more attention to detail and the addition of more furniture and accessories, this home could be a real showplace.

The home has just over 3,900 square feet with four bedrooms, four baths, two living areas, and two dining areas. It also has a carriage house, which is where that small kitchen would be. This home can be yours for $2.2 million.

Goodness! I agree about the sink and the wallpaper. It is too bad because the house has so many really nice features.

I am a big fan of French Country, but I agree. This is a little over the top. Tooo theme like for me. But it does have some wonderful features.

I'm with you. Tone it down a bit and it would be so much more appealing. Now, if they'd just let us get our hands on it!

Love that they painted the ceiling a color. I like SOME wallpaper but this one has too much for me.

I love the house but have to say... If I am going to spend 2.2 millon on a home I don't want to go in and have to re-do a bunch of things (paint/wallpaper/tiles)
I love the red ceiling but think I would like it in a bedroom better then the living room.
What I do love about you taking us through these homes are all the ideas they offer. Thanks!

That home is HUGE!!!! I agree if could be REALLY nice but it's a little too over the top for me. It has great bones but I would leave off most of the wallpaper...I'm not into that as much as I was years ago.

The wallpaper is fine but the roosters on the sink have got to go and the red ceiling and gold walls are not the right shade it is over kill. Wallpaper in everyroom is very french but the key is not to have a gazillion patterns some can be very simple and small designs or tone on tone damasks or even harlequin designs.

Oooooo! I can see paying that amount (if I won the lottery LOL!) IF the sellers wouls update it a bit -- maybe they should check sites like the Cote de Texas blog -- and let Joni work her design magic! LOL! Shades of silvery, grays and neutrals (ivory, cream, khaki) of all sorts, lots of textures like grasscloth on the walls; sisal on the floors; change the hardware to silver or bronze -- and re-do the backsplash and sink! What a HUGE change that would make!

When I read that you HATE the sink I thought to myself, "well, that's a bit harsh, an unlike Sandra" . .but then as I scrolled down to the sink, I sort of pulled back in my chair and did a double take. No, you were not being harsh!:-) Really wonderful house, though.

Wallpaper is very in right now and it is a good way to make a large room more cosy. BUT, a large but (not mine!!!) this decor is not the best. The house would look better with another designer! moi perhaps? haha!!!!

thanks for the comment today!

Great architecture in that house...love the bones. So....you rip some of that scary wallpaper down, let the homeowners take their furniture out of there, and invite Joni over for a few months...DONE!

Yep, what Sharon said!!

I would have to hire someone to come in and rip the wallpaper out. J and I made a deal that has saved our marriage. I promised him, no more wallpaper, when we were in the midst of removing paper, at the farm!

I can't decide what I think about this one. I do love the huge breakfast bar and the detailed ceilings. Oh well, I don't have a cool couple of million to plunk down anyway :)

It's entertaining to see the house as is (thanks for that!), but also frustrating to see such a lack of restraint. Cutesy sink, overdone granny papers...gaaaaa! It is crying out for a modern hit here and there, and the paint colors are so hot it hurt my eyes. O well...if only every designer could be as perfect as I :)
