Home of the Week -- Fredericksburg

This week's home of the week is not a big, multi-million dollar home in Austin. Instead, it's an old, limestone home in the charming town of Fredericksburg, in the Texas Hill Country.

This historical home was built in 1891 by Alfred Vaner Stucken as a one-story limestone home just a block off Main Street. When the family grew, a second story was added using a molded concrete block which looks like a rough-hewn stone and is similar in size to the original limestone. Today the home provides all the modern features, as well as all the charm from the past.

Notice the traditional features like transoms, beadboard ceilings, wood floors, and the solid rock walls. The master suite occupies the entire second floor and not only has a his/hers salons, but also a morning and afternoon veranda to take in the views of the town. You will also find the same front and back porches on the first level.

Behind the main home is a guest cottage converted from the old tank house (the windmill still stands which used to supply water to the storage tank which has long been removed) of days gone by plus a modern addition with long leaf pine walls and ceiling which provide the setting taking you back in time.

The home was completely remodeled in 2004 and is admired by the many tourists which pass by on a daily basis.

Can't you just see it decorated by Carol Bolton or Debbie at Curious Sofa? There was no specific price listed on the mls site, but my guess is it isn't cheap. Could you live here?

Can you believe this is post #99? Don't forget we're celebrating 100 posts, so for every comment you leave between post #90 and #100, you'll be entered to win one of three prizes. (In other words, your last shot at a prize is this post). Good luck!

Now THERE is a home I could happily live in!! How charming is that??? Yep...I think I prefer a home with history than a HUGE McMansion!

Beautiful!

...AND, congrats on 100 posts...that is a BIG deal, say I.

I have been craving a trip to Fredericksburg. This REALLY makes we want to plan a trip soon. True Texas architecture!

When Country Living would publish a photo shoot in Fredricksburg, way back in the 80's, I would read the issue until it was falling apart. I've never been, but would love to go there, someday. I just love the architecture!

I'd like to try decorating this home...ahhh, the ideas, dancing around in my head.

I adore rustic decor and limestone, but that's toooo much stone for me! Of course, I'd spend most of my time on that fab porch!
Happy 100!

I'll take it. Seriously though Fredricksburg is a favorite day trip for me. Love the shops and the architecture.
