Fredericksburg Living

The other day I posted photos of an historic home for sale in Fredericksburg, TX. Fredericksburg is a popular Hill Country retreat for people seeking solace, antiques and a little German flavor. Many people from urban areas like Houston, Austin, and Dallas purchase weekend homes in Fredericksburg, as there are home decor stores, antique shops and interesting historic sites.

This 19th century home was purchased by a Houston couple. All pics are from CountryLiving.com.

You can tell by the photos that the couple opted to leave the home in much of its original state. That's pretty common in Fredericksburg. Fredericksburg designer Carol Hicks Bolton has a style that's all about vintage, antique and tea-stained fabrics and finishes. Her brother-in-law is a decorative painter, who's known for his antique paint finishes. Here's a small sample he did for Home Companion.

As much as I love vignettes, I'm more of a big picture gal, and I really would have loved to see room views of this interesting Fredericksburg home. What about you?

I love that house! And yes I loved seeing the close up shots but whole room views would have been lovely!

Now THAT'S MY STYLE. I would be perfectly at home there; kinda rustic and rugged. I love the walls, all old and lots of texture. With walls like that, why hang art on them, they ARE the art! Love it, love it, love it!

Fredricksburg sounds like such a lovely place...with no shortage of antique shops it seems! Have you been?

I know the owners of the house. They've been restoring it for years, and Carol Bolton had nothing to do with it (seems as if you're implying that).

The wife of the house is a design professional. The house has been a long project for them.

Yes, I would love some wider angle shots to see how it all flows and ties in together!

Besides British Colonial/English Country, my favorite decorating style is definitely a Ralph Lauren/Texas Hill Country look!

AK, how exciting you know the owners of this wonderful house. I didn't think Carol Bolton decorated the house as much as I just thought the house had a bit of her aesthetic. Your friend has great style. :-)
